Katherine Highgate, 27, comes from Toronto, Ontario, a graduate of Ryerson University’s Radio and Television Arts program, and is an aspiring media practitioner. She enjoys reading, creative writing, and public speaking and almost anything that allows her to be creative. She loves watching musical theatre, music, photography and film. One of her dream is to operate her own production company.
Katherine describes herself as someone who does not give up, and at any time, may have two or three projects in the works. Currently, what keeps her busy is blogging, as well as shooting and editing footage around Toronto for RanDOMogal productions. She is influenced by art, design and fashion and finds a way to integrate these loves into her projects.
Her inspiration comes from strong females, and through pageants, has been able to learn and grow from a lot of talented young women. She is excited at any opportunity to work with youth, and through the Miss Universe Canada program, she hopes to continue this tradition of instilling confidence in youth and encouraging others to become involved in their community and to pursue their goals. This is the second time she joins Miss Universe Canada, the first in 2013.
She was a volunteer in The Lambton Kent District School Board, Ryerson University Students’ Union, The Red Cross, Dresden Agricultural Society, Free the Children, Operation Smile and Youth for Human Rights International among others. Her accolades include the Lieutenant Governor’s award for community service in 2008 as well as the Helen Kavanagh Nicol Scholarship, and is committed to working in her community, and becoming an advocate for children. Her proudest personal accomplishment was being a part of the Living Rights project.
Her career ambition is to be involved in broadcast media as both a host and a producer of content. She is fascinated by media, and she has been fortunate to have a taste of everything from scripting to editing. In the last several months, she is actively working on the launch of an original lifestyle series called “Do You”.
Joining the Miss Universe Canada organization does a lot of positive things in her in terms of philanthropy and volunteerism, and lastly she is very excited to be a part of this experience.
