On Thursday, January 17, 2019, Team Hope officially kicked off its Student of the Year campaign to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Ms. Culture Galaxy 2019, Allie Borges, recently attended the first of several fundraisers slated for the seven-week initiative to raise more than $20,000 by March 1st.
Team Hope held a raffle at the IPPONE Kickoff Tournament in Boxborough, Massachusetts, on January 19th in memory of Eliana Rouleau - an angel who lost her fight with acute myeloid leukemia in September 2018 at the age of 14 months. With almost 700 competitors and spectators in attendance, tickets were sold for the chance to win an embroidered blanket donated by Burnt Tear, a set of Buki Yuushu kamas and a 43" HD Smart TV. Monetary donations were also accepted.
All fundraising amounts are kept secret until the Student(s) of the Year Grand Finale on March 1st in Quincy, Massachusetts. It was announced at the event, however, that the overwhelming generosity of the IPPONE martial arts family far exceeded the expectations of Team Hope.
If you or someone you love has been affected by cancer and you would like to make a donation, you may do so online at https://events.lls.org/ma/bostonsoy19/aborges or send a check to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 70 Walnut St, Suite 301, Wellesley, Massachusetts 02481 (Allie Borges in the memo please).
Look for Allie at upcoming Team Hope events including the Hope-athon on February 10th in Sterling, Massachusetts. For more information, please like the Team Hope – LLS Student of the Year Facebook page.
